Develops and cultivates positive, credible, and influential working relationships with elected officials and decision-makers;
Represent and advance the Zoo’s government relations agenda before elected officials and government decision-makers on both a local and state level;
Foster a productive relationship between the Zoo’s senior staff members and elected officials;
Monitor and track proposed legislation and analyze potential impact on the organization’s operations;
Communicate the organization’s views internally and externally to business partners, customers, and potential allies;
Works to influence public and government policy at the local and state level, in the areas of conservation, activist policy, funding, and wildlife care;
Works with Board members and other community members who have relationships with government representatives and communicate our position with elected officials, as assigned by the Vice President of External Relations;
Carries a significant portfolio of elected officials and their staffs, meeting with individuals regularly to maintain professional relationships;
Identifies and acquires public funding and programming opportunities for the Zoo and handles reporting requests for these funds;
Represent the organization at industry forums, political networking events, and community gatherings;
Conducts tours of exhibitry as a means of education and stewardship of prospects and officials;
Regularly coordinate governmental activities with External Relations team members including Director of Development and PR Manager.
Conducts indivudual prospect research.
Attends volunteer and staff meetings, as assigned.
Attends Zoo events, as assigned.
Minimum of five (5) years of relevant government, community or public affairs required. Experience in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented organization.
Strong network with state and local government representatives.
Ability to advocate for laws and regulations, as well as government’s role in adoption and enforcement.
Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred and excellent people skills.
PC proficiency and knowledge of Microsoft Office, strong organizational/communication skills, ability to multi-task, ability to research and pay attention to details, work with the team, and be an independent self-starter.
Position will require work on weekends and holidays.
Valid PA driver’s license and access to car required.
