Wildlife Academy

Welcome to the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium's Wildlife Academy!  We offer a wide range of fun, educational, and interactive programs for all ages - infants to adults.  Some of our programs are old favorites, and some are being offered for the first time.  There's something for everyone! 

Online registration is available for all programs.  Members should sign in with their email address and password to receive the member discount in their cart.

Wildlife Academy Programs

Introduce your child to a world of wildlife and wonder through exciting Wildlife Academy programs designed just for infants and toddlers. Story Time participants will meet animals and listen to stories and songs.  Cub Club (age 2) and Zoo Tots (age 3) participants will meet animals and make wildlife-themed crafts while they learn about nature through songs and stories. Fees and times are listed below.  Please note the age requirements for each class as only registered children of the appropriate age will be admitted. We ask that you do not bring younger children or infants to Cub Club or Zoo Tot programs and only register for one session of each topic.  These are interactive programs, meant for children and their accompanying adults to enjoy together.  For this reason, we kindly ask that you refrain from cell phone use during the program for any reason other than taking photos. 

Story Time at the Zoo
Ages infant - 5 years
Fee: Members $5/person age 2 and older; Non-members $10/person age 2 and older
Participants under the age of 2 are free and do not need to be registered.

Cub Club
Age 2
Fee:  Members $13; Non-members $19
Fee includes one child and one adult; one additional child or adult can be added for $8.  Only children of appropriate age; no infants, younger or older children please.

Zoo Tots
Age 3

Zoo Kids

These classes are for children only.  If you would like to attend a class with your child, we encourage you to register for an overnight sleepover program.  If your child has special needs and requires an aide to accompany him or her, a current copy of the aide's PA Child Care Clearances (including FBI fingerprinting) are required.  All programs include a tour.

Zoo Kids

When Elephants Fly - Sold Out!
Fee:  Members $26; Non-members $32
Sunday, April 22
10:30 am - 12:00 pm


Have you ever wondered how an elephant travels from one zoo to another?  Or a lion, shark, or fish?  Join Zoo Registrar, Heather Terrell, on a photographic journey detailing the ins and outs of zoo animal transports.  Light refreshments will be served, and a special tour will follow the presentation.  Space is limited.

Parents' Night Out
Ages 4-11
Fee:  Members $32/child, $10 for each additonal sibling; Non-members $38/child, $16 for each additional sibling


Looking for more than just a babysitter?  Plan a special evening out while your kids enjoy a fun-filled night at the Zoo!  Activities include a pizza dinner followed by animal encounters, tours, games and a craft, all before settling down to a movie.

Family Overnights
Ages 6-12
6:00 pm - 9:00 am


Fun at the Zoo doesn't have to end when the sun goes down.  Overnights are an exciting way to experience the animal kingdom.  All overnights include animal encounters, behind the scenes tours, a late-night snack, and contntental breakfast, unless otherwise noted.  Children ages 6-12 accompanied by an adult can register for the following overnight adventures:

Sleepover Safari - Sold Out!

Join us on a night-time expedition to meet our most popular African animals.  In the evening, we'll tour the savanna, enjoy activities and animal encounters, along with a late night snack.  In the morning, we'll have a full breakfast in the Zoo's Jambo Grill.  Click here for this overnight's FAQs.

Dig this!  Dinosaurs are coming back to the Pittsburgh Zoo this summer, and what better way to see them up-close than at our DinoSnores Family Overnight.  The evening will kick off with a full dinner including carnivore burgers and dino dogs.  A quest of colossal proportions, including crafts, a scavenger hunt, and animal visits make this a truly epic dino-mite experience.
