Meet Our Animals

Learn about the species you can see at our Zoo

When it comes to conservation, we try to walk the walk. We partner with international organizations to help protect animals and revitalize species in need all over the world. At the Zoo, we strive to be a leader in green practices using innovative technology and fresh ideas.

The International Conservation Center, often referred to as the ICC, sits on 724 acres of rolling hills in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. The ICC is North America’s premiere facility for African elephant conservation, education, training, breeding, and research. The perfect location to accommodate this research, the ICC is currently home to five elephants, including three females who were rescued from Botswana.

PPG Conservation & Sustainability Fund

The PPG Conservation & Sustainability Fund is designed to further the mission of the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium by awarding grants between $1,000 and $3,000 to conservation-oriented projects. Over the past decade, we have funded over 186 projects in 78 countries and all 5 oceans.

The period for accepting proposals for the 2017 grant cycle is now closed.  Decisions will be made by May 1, 2017 and funding will become available in June 2017.

Check back later this year for more information about the projects we're funding this year.
