Some of our animals cannot be out during the cold Pittsburgh winters, so we offer discounted admission during those months. There's still plenty to see, though! Our toasty indoor Tropical Forest, PPG Aquarium, Worlds of Discovery, and Water's Edge buildings, plus several partially indoor exhibits, such as our elephant barn, several exhibits in The Islands, and flamingo exhibit ensure you'll still catch plenty of wild animals during your visit.  Don't forget some animals, such as the Amur tiger and red panda, prefer the cooler temperatures, so a trip to the Zoo in the winter offers an exciting contrasting experience to the more traditional summer visit.

The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium is a living park with live animals. Weather conditions, the animals’ comfort, mood, safety, and needs, their routine medical care, and our conservation research initiatives may all contribute to an animal being off exhibit at any time.

Animals off exhibit today:

  • Sea otters
  • The baby elephant will not be on exhibit this week. She is scheduled to return to her daily exhibit schedule of 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning Saturday, July 29. Please note this schedule is subject to change at any time according to her comfort and needs.
Early Closing
Friday, July 28 - gates close at 2 p.m. and the park closes at 3 p.m. to prepare for our evening event, Summer Safari.

Visit the Zoo as often as you like for free for an entire year with a Zoo Membership. Our Memberships pay for themselves in two visits. Your membership also supports the Zoo in its many conservation and education initiatives.
