Deja, a siamang from the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, is now a Texas resident!
Deja arrived at the El Paso Zoo in late January and will be introduced to a new exhibit and other fellow siamang co-habitants shortly.
Deja was born at the Pittsburgh Zoo to parents Leela and Merlin. However, shortly after her birth, it was apparent that the two new parents were overwhelmed. Unfortunately, the parents stopped caring for the newborn so Pittsburgh Zoo keepers and vet staff had to step in.
After much deliberation and research, the team determined that it would be best for Deja to relocate to a new home that could offer her the opportunity to cohabitate with other siamangs.
As Deja gets acclimated to her new home at the El Paso Zoo, she will have a nursery of her own which will be adjacent to her new family. Mom, daughter, and Deja will have the opportunity to see, touch, and even smell each other.
The entire Pittsburgh Zoo team wishes Deja well on her new adventure. We are excited to see how the future develops for her!
