Adopt an Animal FAQ
No. All adopted animals remain in the care of the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium. We hope you will visit your adopted animal often!
No. All Zoo residents already have names. If there is a specific animal you would like to adopt, we are happy to put the animal’s name on your adoption certificate. Please email [email protected] to make this request.
Adoption orders are generally filled 1-2 weeks after the order date. Digital adoptions will arrive to your email immediately upon order fulfillment, while physical adoption packets will depend on the speed of the mail system.
Your name will be published on the Adopt an Animal board located between the Safari Gift Shop and the carousel on Zoo grounds. The board is updated once a year, in the Fall, with all adopter’s names from the previous year (August-July).
If you adopt as a gift for someone else, the name of the gift recipient will be the name published on the recognition board.
Yes. Animal adoptions are available to anyone at any time.
